IEDA Rural Economic Development Workshop

  • Northwest Indiana Forum 6100 Southport Rd Portage United States (map)

Are you willing to Think Differently about Economic Development Opportunities in Agriculture?

For too long, Hoosiers have thought of agriculture as a ‘passive’ asset, something that gets shipped elsewhere to have value added.

Food and beverage processing is a form of manufacturing that leverages a core Indiana resource, our ag production, and that can bring added value in the form of tax base and jobs to rural areas.

This workshop will unveil the Rural Economic Development Model and the first-of-their kind interactive Indiana Agriculture Asset maps that will help Indiana counties and regions leverage livestock, fruit, vegetables, grains, and hardwoods to create value-added agriculture opportunities by attracting food processing and ag-based suppliers to the state.

This workshop is designed for community, county, or regional teams of economic developers, local ag leaders, and local elected officials to engage in an interactive discussion about creating a value-added ag strategy that is consistent with the agricultural products grown in your region.

Presented by the Indiana Economic Development Association, Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Indiana Corn Marketing Council/Indiana Soybean Alliance, Purdue Center for Regional Development and the Indiana Farm Bureau.
